The rules are not that complicated and will add to your skill as a member of the crew. We try as best we can to involve all crew members in the story. It does not matter if you are new to role-playing, the rules will give you some background information as well as how the game works and who to go to for help if you find you need some.
1.
Your character must be original and realistic.
Your may not clone Star Trek characters and you may not create a Q type character or any super powerful beings.
3.
On the Qul Tuq we ask all players to post at least once a week.
Your post must be at least 200 words in order to be awarded experience points. If you are the Chief of a department or the Assistant Chief of a department, then you are to post at least twice a week. If you fail to post after a 3-week period you mayl be dropped from the ship. If you're going to be unable to post because of real life circumstances please let the captain know so that you can be put you on the LOA (leave of absence) This will keep you alive until you can come back and continue playing. A LOA is a planned absence. You character can be temporarily written out of the story until you are ready to begin playing again. Please remember ALL LOA requests must be in writing and you can email them to the captain off list.
5.
Promotions are determined by your postings, both in quality and quantity.
We have a experience point system that will show when a character is eligible for a promotion. This is not a guarantee that you will get one. All Promotions are based on the amount of work you put into your posts and are at the sole discretion of the Captain.
6.
Ship characters have to stay in character.
If the
Medical Officer just told the XO that she is pregnant, then no one
knows but the XO. If the XO and CO are having a discussion and
exchanging information about a mission and your character is not in
the room, then you did not hear it. If the Captain says that we
are on Red Alert, you do not go play in the holodeck. All
alerts are posted on the QulTuq mailing list. You do not post
the Captain coming to you with a problem, or info on a mission unless
she has approved it. However, if the Captain or XO states an
order within a post that affects other crew or the ship, then it is
assumed that the order has been passed on down the line to all crew
that are affected by the order. For this reason it is very
important to carefully read all the posts. See Rule 10.
9.
Every post has a subject; usually to do with the mission.
The Captain sets the subject and no one is to change it.
The subject also has a # attached to it. If you see a subject
"Don't Shoot # 23 " the subject is "Don't Shoot"
and the # 23 is the number of the post. If I was to send out my
post now it would be # 24 and the subject would be "Don't
Shoot". If you have an idea for a mission or a sub-plot
send it to your department head in writing. Then they will send
it on to the Captain who will approve or reject it, and they will say
why. Either way, it comes to me. If you see a post that
is taking the ship off in another direction, you know the poster has
permission 'cause if they don't then they will be demoted, and may be
cleaning the transporter room tomorrow with their toothbrush.
10.
Read the posts...
Make sure if you are going to be at a
dinner with the doctor that she has not already posted that she is in
the middle of an operation. If you want to have dinner with the
doctor, ask her out after the operation is over. Follow what is
going on aboard the ship. We would not have an evacuation drill
in the middle of the Security Chief's wedding. Everyone's Bio
will be up so go read it. If you're talking to a Ferengi you
would not be intimidated by his height unless you're a dwarf.
11.
Language and violence.
This is a PG rated game. This
means that there is no room for expressive violence and language.
It's been decided that while there is plenty of diplomatic and
peaceful missions in Star Trek, there's some violence as well.
No need to leave out the good bits if that's what you want to write
about... just make sure that your descriptions are appropriate
and not over the top but also cover the rating.
12.
Sex.
This is a PG rated game. While some sexual
infrigment is ok, remember that this is Star Trek - if you haven't
seen it on the tv or movies, then we don't really want to see it in
the game.
13.
This is our universe and it must blend in with the Star Trek
universe.
The Star Trek universe copyrighted by
Paramount and our imaginations must blend. Even in this
universe we like to keep it believable. You will not have the
Queen of the Borg surrendering her ship to you. If the computer
is down then you can't use it till it is fixed. If you are the
Doctor you do not go and fix the computer - the engineer will do
that.
14.
On QulTuq you are limited to one character.
When you
start playing on QulTuq, you are allowed only one character.
15.
If there is a problem on the ship with another player please try to
work it out among yourselves.
If, however, it is being
brought to others in the crew or you cannot resolve the problem,
bring it to the XO and they and the Captain will sit with you both
and help you work it out. Most of the time you will find a
misunderstanding has occurred.
16.
Should a player make a complaint against the Captain or XO or another
player, then it must be put in writing and sent to the person you
lodge the complaint against as well as the Captain and the XO.
The Captain will have 24 hours to respond to the complaint. Yes,
I can be a right bastard sometimes, so you might have to keep me in
line.
17.
Remember there is a chain of command and you are to follow it.
We all have ICQ or AIM or MSN so be nice and no swearing or
calling down other players. Breaking the rules will result in a
strike or warning depending on how serious. Three strikes and
you are out of the game. If you have a strike, you can ask for
removal of that strike after 6 months.
18.
Don't ask questions through the mailing list; send them by e-mail to
your CO/XO or other member off the list.
If and when
you quit, do it off list after talking to your CO. We are all
in this for the fun. If you are not having fun let the Captain
know and he will try to help you.
19. The captain is responsible of keeping track of the posts and the plots. The captain will make sure the game is continuing properly, seeking to involve all players and all their plots. However at times the plots tend to interfere a lot, for that reason all characters are to submit their major plots (mostly plots that involves two or more departments) to the captain who will approve or deny it. He will make some comments about it AND will tell you when the story allows it to be implemented. Minor plots, mostly single departmental plots or single character plots can be posted without approval of the captain also plots not directly interfering with the main plot or other subplots and not having a long term effect may be posted this way.
20.
Joint posts.
It is recommended that you seek other
players to do joint posts. This will enhance creativity and
interaction between character. It also is a great opportunity to meet
the players and talk about new ideas. However sometimes a player cant
respond quickly which might interfere with the story line. When you
have set out a joint post and the player(s) who were supposed to
respond to you haven’t responded in 48 hours you may contact the
captain. He will seek a solution to this and either finish the post
with you or give you the clearance to play the other character. (Note
that this is never allowed if you haven’t consulted the captain,
and only the captain, for this see rule 21)
MIRC, MSN and related chat channels are a great tool for JP's. You can use them to chat with other people or make a JP. I am online whenever I can. Join and chat, or even do a joint post with me or other players! We have our own chatroom in Mirc,
21 PCs, RNPCs and NPCs
No one, except the captain, is allowed to play some one else'€™s PC. The only exception is rule 20. NPCs are an entirely different matter. NPCs can be played by anyone on the ship, and can be used at the will of the player. At some points some players may become attached to some NPC and they can request the captain to make him an RNPC. This means that the NPC gains a status where it cannot be killed, transferred off or used in any harmful or very dangerous way by any player except the ones who created it and the captain. However the RNPC is not a PC so it can still be played by anyone. Recommended is however that when you doubt in using an RNPC for a post you can always ask the creator of that RNPC to help you with the post. RNPC should be considered an award to a player, and is not handed out lightly.

. The Captain will enforce procedures on QulTuq.
This
means that your character will be held responsible for their actions.
Everything that is written in character may very
well be reacted to, and will have consequences for your character,
good or bad. Along with promotions, there will be demotions if
necessary. Extreme cases will result in extreme measures. Eg.
reassignment off the ship (create a new character) or court martials,
etc. Likewise, 'battlefield promotions' of rank or position will
occur if the situation warrants it.
Special
Note: good roleplaying of your character can include involvement in
disciplinary actions.
Also you as player will be held to your role. Department heads have a great deal to do with the main story, and are obligated to help those in their department. The XO is required to oversee all departments and make sure that they work properly. Whenever your role as department head or as XO fails significantly, the captain has the right to transfer you back to another position after three warnings. When the captain falls out of his role significantly the department heads and the XO have the right to warn him and advice him on steps to be taken. The Captain cannot be resigned, be transferred off or be killed, unless he does so himself. The roles are desribed under crewà positions.
